As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

A Bitter Sweet Funk... Thursday, October 22

Right as my boxfit class ended I received a video call.  It was from Snickers in Korea.  He gave me a video tour of our new club, now called Hulk's Club and not Hulk's Boxing. He showed the main room of the club and I sat there biting my tongue.  It was nothing like how I would have designed it.  For starters I think the ring is totally in the wrong spot.  It's tucked in close to a wall which not only causes legality issues if you want to host a tournament there but also safety issues for your own boxers sparring.  Plus it should be more in the middle of the club, posing as kind of like the centrepiece.  It should be loud and out there, the main thing you see when you walk it.  But I hadn't been asked to design the floor plan nor had I even been involved in it.  We have a third partner now so it was Snickers and him that designed and excluded it all.
...don't even get me started on that point either!!!

It most definitely was a bitter sweet moment that put me in a weird mood and then distracted and discouraged me for not only my training but also for the rest of the day.
After what felt like a halfa$$ effort on my behalf to shake off the distraction and discouragement during training, Coach Brown then took me out for breakfast.  I had trained hard but I definitely fought through various mixed emotions during boxing today.

Nothing a good overdose of protein can't fix, right?!

Changed my hair appointment to today.  I needed the extra fix and I needed to just not be alone to work out this funk by myself.

Jumped on the Go Train, was picked up by Papa Bere, and then raced off to my hair appointment.  Walking out a couple of hours later with fabulous hair and having had the chance to bounce ideas and whatnot off my hair stylist guro friend seemed to do the trick.

Then it was back to Toronto for weight training at System.
