As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

I Punched A Man... Thursday, October 6

You’d be surprised how many people (99.9% being men) who upon hearing me tell them I’m a professional boxer tell me to punch them. I’m serious. And I always answer with the same response -- “I’m not sure if I’m offended that you think because I’m a girl that I must not hit hard enough or that you think I punch for free. I'm a female fighter and I'm professional.”  I always tell myself that there’s going to come along that one guy that tells me to punch him and I’m going to.

Tonight I met that guy.

His name is James.

I had just done about four rounds on the heavy bag when I walked out towards the water fountain for some water. He noted he saw me hitting the heavy bag and then told me to punch him. I tried to laugh it off, told him I’m a professional and I’m busy training. “No, I insist”, he said as he put his hand out to block me. I repeated myself a few times and with each time I tried to walk away he repeated a similar plead and tried to physically stop me. By this time many of the guys in the gym had taken notice of what was going on and had tuned in into the situation.

“I’m begging you”, he said and with that I punched him right in the body.

I punched him 10 times. One punch didn’t seem sufficient enough to justify the situation.

I punched him 10 times with my cross jab. He then he told me to hit him again. So I did. I punched him 5 more times. This time I went with a straight low jab.

He complimented me on my punches, he said they were very solid, and I complimented him on taking my punched, I knew they were solid. So tonight I punched a man. I punched man 15 times and about half a dozen people at 10:40pm saw this go down.

James is 61 and he “took it like a man”. Props to him for his strong core!
