As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Feeling Kind of Sneaky... Wednesday, August 30

I learned a lot of valuable life lessons and not so valuable things in Korea but one of the things that I really picked up was their whole "do now, say sorry later" approach to things.  And God bless their soul for teaching me this because I've moved to the Philippines, this is now my home, and it's the land of indecisiveness and lack of initiative.  I'm not hating on the Filipinos, God knows I love this country and I think they're an amazingly happy crew, but when it comes to business there tends to be a lack in decisiveness.  Workers know their roles and they know them well but when it comes to approaching them about anything beyond their role, say something that's higher up for example, they draw a blank.  They tend to not make a decision if they feel it's not their responsibility, role or in their power to do so.  They don't take the initiative to use their own common sense to decide on something or make an executive decision.

The reason why I brought this up is because today I got my flyers printed.  They were picked up at the printers and there on my table they sat.  I thought about doing what I did before and going to the park to hand them out one-by-one to people individually but I have well over 200 flyers.

I had written as one of my weekly goals, hand out all my flyers, and well you know how I am about my goals.  I'm focused and determined to scratch this one off my list as completed.

So I thought up a pretty good plan, or so I thought.

I live in a condo building that has two towers.  In my tower alone, there are 38 floors.  There is the parking lot on the first few floors and I don't think the condos actually start until the 6th or 7th floor.  Each floor has 11 condo units.  Even if we, to make this super simple for us non-math-lovers, 31 floors with 10 condo units, that's 310 condos.  Times that by two towers.  You're looking at 620 condo units.  That's a lot of people... if they're all lived in, that is.  Even if only half of them are lived in, that's still a lot of people.... a lot of potential participants for my Empowered boot camp!!!

Going back to my plan...

How was I going to hand out all these flyers though.  I thought handing them out at the condo would be a good idea but how could I reach the most amount of people in the least amount of time?!

The mail room... brilliant.

I was suggested to ask the front desk girls if I could put the flyers into the individual mailboxes in the mail room but I knew they'd tell me to talk to administration.  Administration would probably ask for something in writing or would question me till I lost my patience and walked away.  Best case scenario, admin would tell me they'll discuss it and get back to me which would mean they'd ask someone higher up and my request would probably get lost.

The short of what's turning into a long story here is I waited till it was late evening, that way the front two desk gals would have gone home for the night and the only ones managing the front lobby area would be two male security condo workers.  Skittles stood in the front lobby with Balboa and I figured the male security would be distracted looking at Balboa while I slipped into the mail room and slipped my flyers into the mailboxes.

Mission accomplished.

I figure if I'm not actually allowed to do what I did then they'll tell me, I'll get a slap on the wrist, and I won't do it again.  That's pretty much the worst that can happen... right?!
