As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Please Make it Work... Wednesday, August 23

I've seen a total of 10 different possible locations for the Empowered Clubhouse and if money wasn't an issue and I had to pick which one I favoured out of them all, I would definitely go with yesterday's location.  The fourth floor space with the loft.

I think that if I scored that place, I wouldn't necessarily be interested in making Empowered any big after that.  It's not as big as I originally wanted to make it but the set up of the space is absolutely perfect.

Filipinos are all about "the cool factor", like Mandalay Whisky and Cigar, the cigar lounge at the back of Belle & Dragon that you have to literally walk through a wooden closet to get to.  There's 20:20 a bar and club that's located out of the norm at the end of a fenced in alleyway.  And then there's the Ocean's Telephone Company Bar that's directions include going up to the second floor of a cafe and looking for the red telephone booth.

The "cool factor" of my Empowered Clubhouse would be that inside it there would be an actual clubhouse -- a treehouse.  I'd design it so that the loft that the previous tenant made would be made out to look like a treehouse.  We'd put wood panelling on the side, cut out one of the walls so that all four walls had windows, furnish it accordingly, and my lounge and fuel bar would be situated in it.

I believed I've reached the point now where I am in love with this space, head over heels, and I've convinced myself that I have to make it work.  Now it's a matter of getting the exact details from the broker and seeing how good her negotiation skills are with the building owner.

Make it work.
