As the story has it, one day I headed to the opposite side of the globe – the Flipside. I arrived in Korea February 16th, 2005 and thought I’d do a year, then leave. I was wrong. I stayed, launched my first company, Flipside Fitness, and then opened Korea's largest boxing club, Hulk's Boxing (now called Hulk's Club).

After 11.5yrs in Korea, I then picked up one day and returned to Toronto, Canada. But then I left again.

Now I live in the Philippines where I am the CEO and head coach of Empowered Clubhouse, the Philippines' first and only boxing clubhouse exclusively just for women. I also am the founder of the Lil' Sistas Project, CEO and designer of Slay Gear and Baa Baa Black Sheep .Ph.

Unexpected Surprise... Monday, June 11

Happy second month anniversary for Team Insider and me... yeahhhhh!!!

Nothing says happy anniversary and perhaps kicks off the week quite like a would-have-been, could-have-been, and should-have-been opponent text messaging me first thing in the morning.  It started off as a short and sweet text via Facebook, telling me hi and saying good morning.  I was thrown off by who had sent it -- it was the opponent whom had canceled our May 13th fight; the Filipino fighter who is fourth in the world.  I responded with a simple hi and then she messaged me again, asking me how my training was and sending me a friend request.  I really didn't know what to make of it all, to tell you the truth.  I've had some of my previous opponents add me on social media after our fights but I've never been added by an opponent who has canceled a fight on me.

I accepted the friend request.

In her following texts, she was sweet in saying she admired my determination and commented about how hard it is to get a fight here in the Philippines.  She's not training as much as she wants, only 2-3 times a week, because of her schedule at a local vegetable market.

I felt her sincereness in her last text so my craving to give in and ask why she cancelled our fight got stamped out.  She's honestly trying to be a friend to me or at least friendly so I respect and appreciate that.  Don't get me wrong, maybe one day I will ask her about it... just not right now.

Today was full of surprises actually.

Today's surprises:
-- text message from Filipina fighter I was suppose to fight
-- free sparring
-- met a WBO world champion boxer
-- two new pairs of socks for boxing
-- lunch out
-- new sweater for Empowered was purchased
-- got help designing new Empowered sweater
